Redborn, who had command of one of the prisoners, later said:

I didn’t quite realise what was happening, I was having so much trouble with my prisoner. He had freed his hands – we were struggling – and he was getting away from me. Then I bowled him over with a rugby tackle. We rolled over and he got free again. He was a much bigger fellow than I was, but I managed to knock him over again, and we lay struggling among some cabbage plants.
